ちなみにドナルド・トランプはさっそくこの事件を「過激派によるテロ」と断定し、イスラム教過激派の脅威についての自分の主張は正しかったとアピールしているようです。

一方、米・イスラム関係評議会（CAIR）は銃撃事件を「極悪非道の襲撃」（"monstrous attack"）として非難し、イスラム教徒に対し負傷者のための献血を呼びかけています。

また、「イスラモフォビアに反対するLGBT+（LGBT+ Against Islamophobia）」は、「この残虐行為をイスラム教徒への憎しみを煽り立てるために使おうとするいかなる試みにも反対します」とする声明をFacebookで発表しています。
なお、この大事件のため目立たなくなってしまっていますが、米国では同日、カリフォルニア州で車に大量の武器・弾薬・爆弾の材料を積み込んだ男が逮捕され、この日同州ロサンゼルスで開催されたプライド・パレードに参加するつもりだったと供述しています。
ロサンゼルスのパレードは予定通り開催され、参加者はフロリダ州の事件の犠牲者を追悼するため「オーランド」の文字をかかげて歩きました。
